An Outstanding And One Of A Kind Red Marble Water Font, Venice, 1600's
This is an outstanding and extremely rare antique Italian water font that originates from the 17th century Venice. Created from a single block of the most magnificent red/pink marble this exceptional treasure is in an octagonal form [with eight sides] of which 4 of the sides include decorative carvings. One with the winged lion is a symbol of the city of Venice as well as its patron St Mark. The other three sides bear different versions of crosses that are the coats of arms of the former Italian maritime republics Genoa, Pisa and Amalfi. This is a one of a kind magnificent treasure of exquisite beauty and historical value. Its stunning sculptural form is elegant and opulent - yet sophisticated in its minimal design. This quality would certainly make it a show stopper in any stylish and unique interior. Its profound character allows it also to be used as a vessel for other decorative items if desired. It measures about 15.5 x 32 x 32 cm or 6.1 x 12.5 x 12.5 inches and it is in great antique condition - considering its age - and exactly as I discovered it recently in the South of France.
