Antique French Blue Display Cushion, 1800's
Antique French Display Cushion, A Majestic Blue Pillow With Gold Bullion Trimming and Tassels On A Stand, Globe de Mariée, Mid 19th Century
A truly majestic antique French display cushion, a luscious blue velvet pillow with gold bullion trimming and tassels on its original tole stand with a bevelled glass, 19th Century.
Still in such a wonderful antique condition, this opulent cobalt blue cushion is breathtakingly beautiful and royal in its appearance especially because of its marvellous bullion (gold metal wire) trimmings, and tassels.
The pillow measures approximately 23 x 25 x 11 cm or about 9 x 9.8 x 4.3 inches and it has four metallic gold tassels, one on each corner.
The cushion comes with its original gilded tole ornate stand, with a gorgeous bevelled glass top adorned in leaves and flowers as well as two adorable cherubs. The stand measures about 16 x 13.5 x 10.5 cm or approximately 6.3 x 5.3 x 4.1 inches.
Together [the pillow and the stand] measure about 8 x 17 x 17 cm or approximately 3.1 x 6.7 x 6.7 inches.
These kind of displays were often used in France during the 18th and 19th century as a part of the "Globe de Mariée" or famous marriage displays to show wedding tiaras, crowns and jewellery. They were also found in shop windows as display stands for jewellery, shoes, etc. This item is in great antique condition with minor signs of ageing which in my opinion only add to its true beauty and splendour today. It is exactly as I found it recently in the South of France. For the full condition please refer to the images!
This is a remarkable and outstanding French treasure for a stylish and unique interior!
