An Exquisite And Unique Antique French Gold Brooch With A Girl Painting, 1850's
This is an exquisite and one of a kind antique French gold brooch with a fine miniature painting of a girl that dates from the mid 19th century. This stunning and unique treasure was discovered in Paris. It is an exceptional brooch made of an 18 carats gold oval frame that could be fastened to clothing with a pin. Within the gold frame is a truly superb miniature painting of a young girl painted with a masterful and fine talent. The miniature is painted on a mother of pearl plate and placed behind bevelled glass. In the past and before photography came into existence portraits of loved ones would be comissioned from the prominent artists of the time. Often such portraits would be set in precious metals and worn as jewellery, close to one's heart. This is one of those unique treasures that is still in great antique condition. It measures about 5.2 x 4,5 x 1.5 cm or approximately 2 x 1.6 x 0.6 inches with a weight of 20 g or about 0.7 oz. The painting bears the artist's signature on the right side of the painting [which I am unable to decipher]. The gold is also marked on the back side spiral that holds the pin. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
