Antique Italian Baldachin, Hand Carved And Gilded Wood Crown, Late 1700's
An outstanding and rare antique Italian baldachin, late 18th century.
This fantastic treasure was just discovered at the beginning of September of 2021 in the South of France. However it originates from Italy and it was most probably created during the second half of the 1700's. This is a baldachin or a canopy that was used as the crowning part over an altar, most certainly adorning the statue of a prominent saint. It is entirely hand carved from wood and gilded with masterful talent and artistry that still after a few centuries looks just exquisite. The top part of the interior is painted in the marvellous cobalt blue colour, representing Heaven. Its fabulous pediment depicts wonderful grapes, grapewines and wheat stems. The baldachin measures about 23 x 35 x 26 cm or approximately 9 x 13.8 x 10.2 inches and it is in great antique condition with minor signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forward its true beauty and splendour today. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
This is a remarkable and outstanding antique treasure for a stylish and unique interior, classical or contemporary! Such items are exceptional when displayed on their own or in combination with other decorative items in order to create an awe-inspiring interior exhibit. It could stand freely on a flat surface or hang on a wall if desired.
