Antique Spanish Santo of Saint Lucy, 1800's
An exceptional and extremely rare antique Spanish santo of St Lucy, 19th century.
This fascinatingly beautiful santo was discovered at the begining of July 2021 in Barcelona, Spain. It is an artistic depiction of St Lucy holding a gilded palm branch - the symbol of a martyr - in one hand and a plate with eyes in the other hand. The santo is entirely hand carved from wood [except the eyes that are made of glass] and placed on a pedestal that is painted with marble effect and partially gilded. This is a remarkable and truly intriguing antique statue that measures about 42 x 24 x 12 cm or approximately 16.5 x 9.5 x 4.8 inches. The figure without the stand is about 35 cm or approximately 13.8 inches high and in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forward its true beauty and splendour today. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
