A Breathtaking Antique Spanish Santo In Opulent Robes And Silver Crown, 1800's
This is a breathtakingly beautiful antique Spanish santo of the Madonna that was discovered in Madrid. It originates from the mid 1800's. Except for its glass eye, the figure is entirely hand carved from wood that is partially painted in blue colour. The santo is dressed in exquisite robes including a red velvet cape with gold bullion trims. Underneath is a dress embellished with gold work embroidery that is just stunning. The head is adorned with the most gorgeous crown - as a leafy garland - crafted masterfully and delicately from silver. The santo's arms can slightly move. This is a magnificent and sacred treasure created with an exceptional taste and high artistic quality. Its royal presence is remarkable in its unique opulence and theatrical splendour. It is in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing which is understandable considering it is about 170 years old. It is exactly as I discovered it.
