A Fabulous Antique French Wood Carving, A Giant Clam Shell Bowl, 1800's

This is a truly fabulous and extremely rare antique French giant clam shell bowl that is hand carved from wood. Discovered recently in the South of France this rare treasure that dates from the 19th century is impressive in its size as well as a stunning timeworn patina created by the passage of time. This unique distressed appeal comes from a flaking of the gilding that reveiled in the process gorgeous under-layers in cream colour as well as some natural wood. Once it was most probably used as a table centerpiece or a fruit bowl. It measures about 50 x 50 x 13 cm or approximately 20 x 20 x 5 inches and it could be used today as a vessel for fruits or other decorative items as well as be hung on a wall if desired. It is in lovely antique condition and exactly as I discovered it in Avignon in November of 2023. For the full condition please refer to the images!
