A Fabulous Pair Of Antique French Gilded Wood Carvings, early 1800’s

This is a fabulous pair of extremely rare antique French wood carvings that was discovered recently. They are entirely hand carved from wood and partially gilded with a gorgeous timeworn patina that gives them a mesmerising appeal. Such items were used in the past as the holders of a large pole that held a grand chateau tapestry. These exquisite embellishments are fascinating in their remarkable and ornate design with stunning wings and delightful acanthus curls that are truly breathtaking. Today such treasures could be used to hold a large tapestry, textiles or works of art. However their beauty is so fascinating that showing them just as they are would create a spellbinding interior display. And they could be exhibited in numerous ways, on a flat surface as well as on a wall if desired. Each carving measures about 23 x 58 x 10 cm or approximately 9 x 22.8 x 3.9 inches and they are in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing which in my opinion only brings forward their true beauty and grandeur today.
