A Fabulous Pair Of Architectural Fragments, Gilded Wood Carvings, 1700's

This is a fabulous pair or rare antique French architectural fragments that date from the second half of the 18th century. They are created from gilded and hand carved wood in the form of winged dogs adorned with floral details. Once they were a part of a grand interior of a chateau in the South of France. Through the passage of time some of the gilding has flaked away creating in the process a mesmerising distressed patina of captivating beauty. In my opinion this enhances even further their highly decorative presence. Each one measures about 34 x 34 x 9 cm or approximately 13.3 x 13.3 x 3.5 inches. They are free standing and in lovely timeworn antique condition that could be displayed in so many creative ways. These are fantastic adornments and exactly as I discovered them at the beginning of 2026 in Avignon. For the full condition please refer to the images!
