A Magnificent And Rare Ecclesiastical Antique Italian Embroidery, 1800's
This is a truly magnificent and one of a kind antique Italian ecclesiastical treasure that was discovered on my recent trip to Florence, Italy in January of 2022. It is a large silk panel over a wooden board measuring about 59.5 x 45 cm or approximately 23.4 x 17.7 inches that was created in the early 19th century. In its centre is a stunning tempera painting of the young Jesus holding an orb that is placed on natural colour silk embroidered with the greatest artistry and craftsmanship. The embroidery consists of a gorgeous bouquet of flowers with two cornucopias [created in goldwork] from which garlands of exquisite flowers are opulently spreading through the entire work. The floral garlands are embroidered in silk in majestic pastel colours that still look outstanding. On the bottom to the panel it is written SSMO Salvatore, translated as The Most Holy Saviour. The panel could be displayed as it is but personally I believe that it should be framed in order to show it in its full glory and splendour. Considering its age it is in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing and exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
