A Magnificent And Rare Framed Antique French Aubusson Tapestry, 1700's

This is an absolutely magnificent and extremely rare antique French Aubusson tapestry that was discovered recently in Avignon in the South of France. It is framed in a distressed gilded wooden frame and it dates from the 18th century. The tapestry depicts a romantic landscape set against an opulent surrounding of verdure, stylised foliage and extraordinary vignettes of flowers and birds. Through the passage of time some of the original colours have faded creating in the process a stupendous masterpiece of the past with tons of red, green and earthy shades that are present today. This in my opinion only brings forth its true beauty and splendour today. The tapestry also bears the signature of its famous maker D AUBUSSON. This is a remarkable treasure measuring about 90 x 72 cm or approximately 35.4 x 28.3 inches and it is in lovely antique condition considering its impressive age with signs of ageing mainly seen in the gilding distressing of its frame.
