A Majestic Antique Spanish Incense Burner, Solid Silver, Early 1700's
This is a majestic and extremely rare antique Spanish Incense burner that was discovered recently in Sevilla, Spain. It is a remarkable treasure of exceptional beauty and craftsmanship that dates from the beginning of the 18th century. The burner itself consists of two parts, the chalice [or base] that holds the incense, and the cover. The whole is attached by four large chains to a top holder which allows the incense burner to be hung if desired. The total length is about 95 cm or approximately 37.4 inches when suspended. The incense burner on its own measures about 23 x 12.5 x 12.5 cm or approximately 9 x 5 x 5 inches. It is made of solid silver that is clearly marked [on the burner and the top hand holder] with the impressive weight of 1164 games or about 2.56 lbs. Considering its grand age of more than 300 years, it is in great antique condition with minor signs of ageing that are expected with items of this period. It is exactly as I discovered it.
