A Majestic Italian Renaissance Carving With Exquisite Distressed Patina, 1600's

This is a truly majestic and one of a kind antique Italian wood carving that belongs to the Renaissance period - most certainly early 17th century or older.  Discovered recently from a private collection this remarkable hand carving was created with masterful artistry and craftsmanship. The complexity of ever mesmerizing acanthus leaves are carved upon a wooden panel with embossed flowers. The carving is gilded. Through its impressive age some of the gilding has flaked away creating in the process a fascinating timeworn patina of astonishing beauty. This is a unique treasure that is highly decorative. It measures about 23 x 53 x 5.5 cm or approximately 9 x 20.8 x 2.1 inches and it is in lovely antique condition with signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forth its true captivating presence and splendour.
