A Pair Of Magnificent, Rare And Large Antique Italian Lion’s Paws, 1700’s

This magnificent pair of large antique Italian lion’s paws was discovered recently in the South of France. They are entirely hand carved from wood and gilded. Once they were most probably adornments of a grand piece of furniture [a table or a console perhaps] or a part of an impressive architectural embellishment such as a door frame, fire place etc. The carvings date from the 18th century bearing signs of ageing that gives them a splendid distressed appeal like no other. They are extremely decorative treasures that would look spectacular just as they are - free standing as a sculptural display - or shown in combination with other decorative items in order to create a spellbinding interior exhibit. Each carving measures about 77 x 18 x 22 cm or approximately 30.3 x 7 x 8.6 inches and they are exactly as I discovered them with a gloriously timeworn patina.
