A Remarkable Antique French Painting, Crucifixion Of Christ, 1600's

This is a fascinating and extremely rare antique French painting that dates from the 17th century. It is an anonymous oil on canvas depicting the Crucifixion with Mary Magdalene at the feet of Christ. Two cherubs are beneath the arms of Jesus. Poignant in its nature yet powerful in its artistic mastery this remarkable work of art is exceptional in so many ways. What makes it even more extraordinary today - in my opinion - is the timeworn appeal created by the passage of time. The painting was discovered in Avignon in the South of France and it is exactly as I found it, except the frame that was added later. The frame is in black wood with a gilded detail and measures about 79 x 66.5 x 4.5 cm or approximately 31.1 x 26.1 x 1.7 inches.
