A Remarkable Set Of Four Fierce Lion's Paws, Italian Wood Carvings, 1700's
This is a truly remarkable set of four antique Italian lion's paws that date from the early 18th century. Discovered recently in Arezzo in Tuscany, these fabulous paws are hand carved from wood and once most certainly were the legs of a smaller cabinet or a tabernacle. Through the centuries of their existence they gained a fascinating distressed patina that in my opinion only enhances their true fierce presence and splendour today. Each paw measures about 18.5 x 9 x 10 cm or approximately 7.2 x 3.5 x 4 inches. These are highly decorative items that could be displayed in so many creative ways. They could also hold another decorative item as a large crystal ball for example shown in the first image of this listing. They are gorgeous and timeworn to perfection.
