A Stunning And Rare Antique French Pedestal With Agnus Dei, 1700,s
This is a stunning and extremely rare early 18th century antique French pedestal. Discovered recently in the South of France this remarkable stand is carved from wood and was most certainly once the base of a devotional statue. On its front is a gorgeous depiction of Agnus Dei [Lamb of God] while the sides bear sunbursts with the letter "M" for "Mary". A majestic timeworn patina has been created during its existence which in my opinion only brings forth its true beauty and splendour today. Such pedestals are fabulous bases that could hold today any decorative item - large or small - such as statues, sculptures, natural curiosities and much more. I am displaying it in here in a few images with a large gilded carving to show an example of how it may look in an interior. The pedestal measures about 21 x 40 x 22.5 cm or approximately 8.2 x 15.7 x 8.8 inches and it is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
