A Superb And Extremely Rare Antique Italian Wood Carving, Reliquary, 1700's

This is an absolutely superb and extremely rare antique Italian reliquary that dates from the first half of the 18th century. Discovered recently in Florence this unique treasure is entirely hand carved from wood and gilded in silver that through passage of time gained a darker tone with old silver still shinning through. This adds to its fabulous timeworn patina with a light distressed appeal. Created with masterful artistry and craftsmanship this magnificent carving has a stunning sculptural quality with a floral theme depicting flowers as well as olive leaves in a shape of a garland. The central part holds a beveled glass window behind which once it held most probably a relic that is no longer in existence.
