A Superb Antique Italian Madonna Statue, Gilded Carved Wood, 1700's

This stupendous sacred sculpture that was discovered in Italy is a hand carved bust of the Virgin Mary that dates from the 1700's. Exquisitely carved from wood and gilded this outstanding Madonna is one of a kind masterpiece of exceptional beauty and profound meaning. Her head is slightly tilted to one side with closed eyes and two tears on her cheeks. Recently I added to the statue a delicate and rare vintage wreath with natural hydrangea flowers in light pink colour [preserved with a thin layer of wax] as it has been a custom for centuries with such devotional statues. Madonna sculptures are often adorned with flowers, jewellery, votives and other embellishments as a token of gratitude and affection. 

The bust measures about 33.5 x 28 x 13.5 cm or approximately 13.1 x 11 x 5.3 with a weight of 3.350 kg or 7.4 pounds. It is in great antique condition considering its impressive age of about 300 years with minor signs of ageing which in my opinion only enhance its true beauty and splendour today.
