A Wonderful Spanish Santo Of Madonna With Silver Crown, Heart And Rosary, 1800's
This is a truly wonderful and rare antique Spanish santo that was discovered recently. It dates from the middle of the 19th century and it is created from carved and painted wood. Her eyes are made of glass. The santo is fully dressed in layered white robes with flowers and a stunning gold embroidered veil. She is adorned with the most magnificent silver crown with a halo of 12 stars and faded pink fabric roses. Other silver accessories include a gorgeous sacred heart, a rosary and a brooch probably bearing the name of a previous owner. The Madonna's face is exquisite with a serene expression looking downwards. Her lower arms can slightly move to a desired position and she is placed on a base in light pink and blue tones resembling a cloud/heaven. The santo measures about 61 x 28 x 18 cm or approximately 24 x 11 x 7 inches including the crown and the base. It is in lovely antique condition with some signs of ageing which is understandable considering that is more than 170 years old. This could be mainly seen in its patina created by the passage of time. It is exactly as I discovered it in Barcelona. For the full condition please refer to the images!
