An Amazing And Extremely Rare Antique Spanish Santo Of St Lucia, 1800's

1 515,00 €Price

This is a truly amazing and extremely rare antique Spanish santo figure of Santa Lucia that dates from the 19th century. Discovered recently in Barcelona this remarkable figure is hand carved from wood, except for the glass eyes of the saint. St Lucia is the patron saint of the city of Syracuse in Sicily. Because of various traditions associating her name with light, she came to be thought of as the patron of sight and was depicted by many artists since medieval times carrying a dish containing her eyes as with this particular santo. The statue measures about 41 x 30 x 13 cm or approximately 16.1 x 11.8 x 5.1 inches and it is in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing. She is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
