An Exquisite And Rare Antique Spanish Gilded Wood Carving With Angels, 1700’s

This is an exquisite and extremely rare antique Spanish wood carving that dates from the early 18th century. This is a magnificent ancient treasure -discovered in Barcelona - that was once most probably a crowning part of an alter, placed above a devotional statue. It is entirely hand carved from wood, painted and gilded with a masterful artistry and craftsmanship. In the centre of the carving is a glorious open winged white dove - representing the Holy Spirit - guarded by two exceptional angels surrounded by clouds. This heavenly depiction is truly remarkable in its fine beauty and grace that after about 300 years of its existence still radiates with profound meaning and splendour. The carving measures about 26 x 76 x 10 cm or approximately 10.2 x 30 x 3.9 inches and it is in lovely antique condition with some signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forward its true beauty today.
