An Outstanding And Extremely Rare Antique Spanish Santo Dolorosa, 1850's
This is an outstanding and extremely rare antique Spanish santo that dates from the mid 19th century, Barcelona. It is a magnificent representation of the Dolorosa [sorrowful Virgin Mary] that is still in her original black velvet robes which are hand embroidered and adorned in gold bullion thread and trims. The santo is masterfully hand carved from wood [except the glass eyes] and positioned on a pediment. To make it even more remarkable all of her embellishments, including the exquisite crown with a halo of stars, a sacred heart with seven swards and a rosary, are also present - all made in Sterling silver. This exceptional treasure that was discovered recently comes from a private collection and it is exactly as I discovered it. In lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing which in my opinion only brings forward its true beauty and splendour today. For the full condition please refer to the images!
