A Magnificent And Extremely Rare Antique Flemish Madonna Painting, 1500's
This exquisite and ancient Madonna painting that dates from the 16th or early 17th century was discovered in France. It derives from the Flemish school that flourished from the early 15th century until the 17th century. Flanders delivered the leading painters in Northern Europe and attracted many promising young painters from other countries. These painters were invited to work at foreign courts and had an Europe-wide influence. Since the end of the Napoleonic era, Flemish painters have again been contributing to a reputation that had been set by the Old Masters.
Remarkable and poignant in its serene beauty this outstanding Madonna is exquisitely painted on a copper plate. This is a work of an anonymous master of arts painted with fine artistry and talent that still after so many centuries radiates with spellbinding beauty and splendour. At a later stage, most probably during the 1800’s the painting was placed in a gilded frame with roses [a symbol of the Virgin Mary]. Considering its impressive age the painting is in great antique condition, showing some signs of ageing mainly seen on the frame. However in my opinion this only brings forward its absolute magnificence and delight today. This is an awe-inspiring treasure like no other. It is exactly as I discovered it.
