A Remarkable Pair Of Antique French Bronze Ornaments, Billiard Pockets, 1800's
These exquisite French embellishments that date from the 1850's are truly extraordinary in their beauty as well as a fascinating and curious design. Once they were used as adornments for the corners of an ancient billiard table [as pockets for balls]. They are entirely made of gilded cast bronze that gives them a magnificent sculptural quality depicting child's hands [that are movable] surrounded by a luscious and intricate pattern. Such items are highly decorative and could be displayed in many innovative ways, on their own on a flat surface perhaps or in combination with other decorative items in order to create a spellbinding interior exhibit. The hands can also hold some object if desired. Each ornament measures about 17 x 12.5 x 10 cm or approximately 6.7 x 4.9 x 3.9 inches and they are in great antique condition with minor signs of ageing which in my opinion only brings forth their true beauty and splendour today. They are exactly as I discovered them recently. For the full condition please refer to the images!
