A Majestic And Rare Antique French Eagle Finial On A Stand, 1800's
This remarkable eagle that was discovered during an estate sale of a chateau in the South of France originates from the early 1800's. It is an absolutely majestic eagle sculpted from copper that through the passage of time has gained an exquisite patina of astonishing beauty and grandeur. Once the eagle graced a castle as its proud roof finial. I have mounted the eagle on a strong iron stand so that it could be displayed as an interior sculptural work. Its presence is powerful in its beauty as well as its symbolic meaning: With its acute eyesight, the eagle has come to embody an all-seeing eye. The eagle is often a solar symbol, and can be linked to all sky gods. It signifies inspiration, release from bondage, victory, longevity, speed, pride, father and royalty; it is often an emblem for powerful nations. This captivating finial is an outstanding treasure that would certainly bring the taste of the French grandeur to any interior classical or contemporary. It is in lovely antique condition with signs of ageing that in my opinion only enhances its true beauty and splendour today. It is exactly as I discovered it {with added stand].
