Antique French Empire Eagle, Gilded Wood Carving, Early 1800's
A stunning and rare antique French Empire eagle, hand carved and gilded wood with a distressed patina, early 1800's.
This wonderful eagle dates from the very beginning of the 19th century [French Empire period] and it was discovered during my latest trip to Paris in June of 2021. The eagle is entirely hand carved from wood and gilded. Through the passage of time some of the gilding has flaked away creating in the process a fabulous timeworn patina with distressed appeal. In my opinion this brings forward its true beauty and splendour today. It measures 29 x 39 x 9 cm or approximately 11.4 x 15.3 x 3.5 inches and it is in lovely antique condition with signs of ageing mainly seen in some loss of the gilding. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
This is a remarkable French treasure that would look just exceptional in any stylish and unique interior, classical or contemporary. Such items are exquisite when displayed on their own or in combination with other decorative items in order to create an awe inspiring interior exhibit.
