Antique French Swan On Stand, Late 1700's
A magnificent and extremely rare antique French Empire swan, late 1700 - early 1800's.
This is an exquisite antique French swan that is entirely hand carved from wood and gilded. Once it was most probably a crowning part of a grand mirror or a piece of furniture that was created during the late 18th or a very early 19th century, known in France as the distinguished Empire period - renowned for its refined style and design - featuring often swans as other fantastic creatures such as nymphs, dragons and cherubs. The swan was mounted recently on a fine art display stand that enhances even further its exceptional beauty and splendour in my opinion. The swan with the stand measures about 62.5 x 26 x 20 cm or approximately 24.6 x 10.2 x 7.8 inches. Just the swan [without the stand] measures about 33 x 26 x 11 cm or approximately 13 x 10.2 x 4.3 inches. In lovely antique condition with signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forward its true majesty today with a gloriously timeworn and distressed patina like no other. The swan is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images.
This is a remarkable and outstanding antique treasure for a stylish and unique interior, classical or contemporary!
