A Fabulous And Rare Antique Italian Hand Carved Wood Statue, 1800's

This is a fabulous antique Italian putto statue or an artistic representation of a naked boy that dates from the early 19th century. The statue is entirely hand carved from wood with a masterful talent and artistry depicting a stunning boy with a wooden sphere on a rope. The figure is mounted on a square pedestal. Once the statue was most probably fully gilded. Through the passage of time all the gilding has flaked away revealing in the process the under layers of gesso and wood. This has created a fascinating patina of exceptional beauty and splendour that gives in my opinion this precious masterpiece a superb appeal like no other. It measures about 54 x 17 x 16 cm or approximately 21.2 x 6.7 x 6.3 inches. It is in lovely antique condition and exactly as I discovered it last year in Florence, Italy.
