A Set of Three Exceptional Nativity Figures - The Three Kings From Naples

This is a rare and exceptional set representing The Three Wise Man or The Three Kings from the famous Crib Art of Naples in Italy. For centuries in the Southern city of Naples, the most magnificent nativity scenes and figures have been hand crafted with unique combination of artisanal skills and fabulous artistic expression. This has become an art form of fascinating beauty and craftsmanship. The heads, arms and legs of these figures are made of terracotta that has been individually sculpted with a fine artistic quality. The eyes are made of glass while the bodies are constructed from wire and straw that allows each of them to be moved and placed in a desided position [they can sit, stand, kneel etc]. The bodies are further dressed in elaborate costumes, hand stitched from opulent fabrics and adorned with gold bullion metallic trims. With these Christmas characters, Neapolitan creativity has captivated international collectors since the early 18th century, and these particular Tree Kings are a great example of it. They are most probably from the 1800's and in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing which is understandable considering their age and materials used for such creation.
