Two Antique French Goldwork Embroideries, 1800's
A divine set of two antique French gold and silverwork embroidered altar fronts, mid 19th century.
This exceptional altar fronts were discovered in March of 2021 in the South of France. They were made during the mid of the 1800's by the same creator and this is the reason why I am selling them together. These are exquisite examples of French ecclesiastical embroideries that are often on luscious textiles - in this case on a natural coloured silk. A masterful talent and painstaking craftsmanship went into their making. One embroidery depicts the most glorious Dove of the Holy Spirit while the other one depicts the Ark of the Covenant with two angels. Both are placed on golden rays of light depicting the Heaven with silk panels embellished in fabulous metallic trims and fringes. They are in lovely antique condition considering their age and the delicate materials used such as silk, with minor signs of ageing which in my opinion only brings forward their true beauty and splendour today. They could be used in many ways to create spectacular interior displays. If desired they could be also made into two opulent pillows. They are exactly as I discovered them.
